She attended numerous colleges and universities, including Slippery Rock State Teacher's College in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, where she majored in physical education and minored in biological science. She graduated with a degree in psychology from Cal-State University, Fullerton, and though she says she never worked professionally as a psychologist, the degree did come in handy as she raised three boys and three girls.
After the children were grown, Mikki had a variety of employment, including working with two ethnic dance companies. She also was active in the Sierra Club.
Around 1962, she urged Sierra Club member Bob Brooks to start a folk dance weekend at Harwood Lodge (officially the Aurelia Harwood Memorial Lodge), which increased to five folk dance weekends each year.
In 1967, Mikki was a performer with the Gandy Dancers that met at the Lemon Grove Playground in Hollywood. She was Gene Ciejka's regular partner with the Polish ensemble, Polsky Iskry (picture above left).
In 1986, Mikki led international folk dancing dancing on Mel Mann's "Dance on the Water" cruise and had a regular international folk dance class in Irvine, teaching dances from Greece, Israel, Russia, Romania, and the Balkans.
She moved to Leisure World in late 1999 and joined the Aquadettes, a synchronized swim team, in 2000. Mikki has always enjoyed water sports, such as canoeing and water skiing.
