Candi deAlaiza started folk dancing at the University of Santa Barbara in 1961, and has been interested in the dances of the Basque people since 1973. She danced with the Basques in Spain and worked with them for an extended period in 1972 and 1973. She has worked with California Basques and has taught Basque dances to dance groups in Southern California.

She coreographed Basque dances for the Westwind Folk Ensemble. Two of her students, Anthony Ivancich and Roo Lester, have gone on to teach Basque dances in the United States.
