Statewide Program 1985 It's a nice number, the 40th Annual Statewide Festival, "Fiesta Folklorica," University of California Santa Barbara, May 24, 25, 26, and 27, 1985.

Chairperson Steve Davis and his Committee have prepared for us four days of dancing and entertainment in the University's fine facilities.

The Friday night Warm-up Party in the old Gym was hosted by the Five City Folk Dance Council. The Saturday afternoon Institute was split between the Robertson Gym and the old Gym, with the dances repeated at the different times. Something new in this scheduling.

There were exhibitions in Robertson Gym from 3:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. with the evening Festival scheduled in the same location. The After Party was in the old Gym from 11:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.

The Sunday morning Installation Brunch took place in the Holiday Inn at Goleta, actually our headquarters hotel. Lila Aurich and Burt Sholin, presidents of the South and North respectively, installed the incoming officers.

Following the Installation Brunch, one additional Institute, much on the order of the day before, was scheduled for both Robertson and the old Gym with an afternoon of regular dancing, 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., in Robertson Gym. This Gym has a beautiful floor and we were requested to use soft shoes to protect the surface.

During Sunday evening from 8:00 p.m. to 9:45 p.m we were entertained by the Khadra Concert in Campbell Hall. There was then an After Party in Robertson Gym from 10:00 p.m. until 12:00 midnight with live music by Nišava.

Monday at 12:00 noon there was the Barbecue at Oak Park, MC'ed by Dick Oakes, with dancing until 4:00 p.m. A very fitting close to a slightly different Festival but most enjoyable.

The offical program carried special acknowledgements to the Statewide Board made up of various civic organizations. Along with representatives of the Five Cities Folk Dance Council were the following Federation Representatives: Nancy Linscott, Donna and Art Hurst, Gene Lovejoy, Archie Sterling, Valerie Staigh, and Dorothy Daw. There were no doubt others who served but we do not have their names.

I should add, we Past Presidents enjoyed the Past President's Party and those who were invited to the Midnight Party had little doubt as to whom the "Given by your friends" actually was.
